It's my favourite tree
Full of memories
The family tree hung proudly in the hall
Boasts our family name
Our personal hall of fame
Hanging high forever on the wall

And at the top of the tree
Of a so-proud family
There's a portrait of Nanny and Poppa
I remember so well
Big stories they'd tell
The biggest of all was a whopper

With an old-timer's sigh
Poppa half-closed one eye
Pointing, smiling, south, east, north then west
From the land to the sky
Trying his hardest not to cry
He'd mutter can't say which direction's best

We owned the whole lot, both eyes closed he'd say
And I'd do my very best ride the boundary each day
The joy of a lifetime, though tough, not begrudged
Odd days I fell short, I gave it one great nudge

Just south of the pine
I know it's hard to believe
But they used to be mine

Each stride of the ride there
The heartbeat increased

Just in time I'd turn north
Have a look, past the hay
To those snow-covered mountains
Toughest part of my day

So I'd steer my mount west
Homeward leg of the ride
To the best mutton roast
Served me by my pretty bride

That's Your Nanna son
Look at her there
See, she's cooking away again
For you, for me, and for the whole family
